Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain, has warned his side to guard against complacency during their upcoming ODI series in Bangladesh.Vettori had said the tour of the subcontinent would give his team an advantage over other overseas sides during the World Cup early next year.
New Zealand play five of their six World Cup league games in India, and the other in Sri Lanka, while the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur - the venue for the upcoming ODI series - will host two of the World Cup quarterfinals."We're going to play games over there during the World Cup and probably important games," Vettori said. "We want guys to feel pretty familiar, so when we turn up there on a short stay, World Cup time, they will know what to expect." New Zealand play two warm-up games against a Bangladesh Board President's XI on October 1 and 2, ahead of the first one-dayer on October 5.

Tamim career-best ranking

Tamim Iqbal ignited the fourth day's play at Lord's with a second-innings 103 and has now jumped six places among the world's leading batsmen to No.25, his highest ranking. England captain Andrew Strauss has returned to the top 20, and is the only England player in that select group, after scores of 83 and 82 in England's eight-wicket victory. Steven Finn, man of the match at Lord's, is rewarded for his nine wickets with a 48-place jump but, still only at No.48, England's latest fast bowler is still very much at the beginning of his career.Tamim hit 55 in the first innings of the opening Test, making it five scores over fifty in his last six Test innings against England. His reward is a place in the top 30 list of batsmen which is still headed by India's Virender Sehwag.Tamim Iqbal carried that exuberance an extra yard or 20. Having cavorted through the nineties in a calculated assault on Tim Bresnan, he secured Bangladesh's first Test century at the home of cricket with a dismissive smack back over the bowler's head, whereupon he hurtled almost to within touching distance of the dressing-room balcony, and pointed to the back of his shirt as if to tell his team-mates to get on with the business of sticking his name up on the honours-board. Clearly, in his excitement, Tamim forgot that his name only appears on his back in ODI and Twenty20 contests, but after racking up a sublime century from 94 deliveries, he might as well have been playing limited-overs. Tamim rifled Steven Finn through midwicket for four. The shot was the third of three fours in a row, and whereas the first two were based entirely on bravado - a bludgeoning drive and a streaky edge - this was an emphatic stamp of class. The ball was short and rose steeply, but Tamim rocked back with his weight perched daintily on one leg, a la Brian Lara, and all that remained was for the fielders to whistle in admiration. Tamim and Imrul Kayes have been like the hare and the tortoise - only without the twist to the end of the fable. Until this Test, Kayes' highest score in 22 Test innings had been a measly 33, and it was to his great credit that the lure of Lord's brought him out of his shell. After a first-innings 43, Kayes was briefly the pacesetter in the follow-on, as he hustled along to 48 from 71 balls, with Tamim trailing in his wake on 37 not out (albeit from just 44 balls). But then, while Kayes fretted over his landmark, Tamim went into overdrive, adding 40 runs to his total from 27 balls before his partner could notch up his fifty. Tamim's response was to batter England's Player of the Year into submission from the word go. The first ball was a mistimed charge that telegraphed his intent; the second ball was belted high and handsomely into the Mound Stand for six. A brutal drive for four came next, and then it was down onto one knee once more, for another scintillating slog-sweep over the ropes. Seventeen runs were swiped from the over, as England's toils continued.

one-year ban and halved his Rs 2 million fine:Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik's one-year ban and halved his Rs 2 million fine. "The board's legal advisor has reported to me that after monitoring Malik in the last three months they feel he has improved his behavior and attitude," Irfan Qadir, the arbitrator, said. "I have decided to uphold his appeal and lift the ban as the purpose of disciplinary action against players was to make them rethink about their careers."Malik said, the purpose behind his appeal was to "clear this stigma" against his name.
"I am very happy that with the blessings of Allah my stand has been vindicated and all the baseless charges and allegations have been quashed," Malik, 28, said in a statement. "It's a sort of new life for me and I am very happy."

The charge against Malik was never clearly explained by the inquiry committee that decided on the punishment but it was widely thought to be for what a number of management officials and players called his negative influence on the side. This was confirmed in a subsequently leaked video of the inquiry committee meetings, in which Malik's role within the squad was blasted by a number of players including Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf.

Butt said,"I have instructed the team manager and other officials including the captain that any act of indiscipline, any such problem, and they have my full backing in immediately sending a player back". "They need not even refer the case to me, they can send the player back immediately as they will have full authority to do so."

Shahadat Lord's memories

"I am very happy today," said Shahadat. "My name is on the board, and it's the first time in Bangladesh cricket so it's a big thing for me. After my debut, I never thought I would get a second chance to come here to Lord's, but I always said that, if I did, I would try to make up for it. That time Trescothick and [Andrew] Strauss hit me everywhere, but this time I just tried to forget it. I bowled line and length with a bit of swing, and nothing else."
From the moment Shahadat found his range in a purposeful second spell, Bangladesh's collective approach was of the up-and-at-'em variety. They claimed six wickets for 143 to rob England of their right to declare, and if Tamim Iqbal's initial flurry of bat-swishes crossed the line between bold and reckless, it nevertheless got the close fielders out of his eyeline, and encouraged his more timid partner, Imrul Kayes, to knuckle down alongside him.
However, Shahadat returned older and 26 Tests wiser, and made it his mission to atone for those shortcomings. His reward was a place on the dressing-room honours board - the first Bangladeshi ever to achieve such a feat. But more importantly, the verve and impetus he injected into his own performance provided his team with the inspiration that had been so sorely lacking on that last infamous visit. The net result was the best day that Bangladesh has ever produced in a Test against England, and for a sceptical audience, definitive proof of the strides they have taken in their development.

Kamran dismisses match charges

Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has dismissed allegations of having links with bookmakers and that he deliberately under-performed on the tour of Australia at the start of this year. Akmal told the media in Lahore on Friday that he was fed up with the constant speculation about match-fixing in Pakistan cricket, instead opting to focus on competing.

"I don't even think about these things, I just concentrate on my performances. For me not being able to win the Twenty20 World Cup despite the team playing well is heartbreaking enough," Akmal said. The International Cricket Council's (ICC) anti-corruption unit said on Thursday it was examining Pakistan's dismal tour of Australia this year when they were whitewashed in the Test and one-day series.

Pakistan slumped to defeat in the second Test in Sydney after they appeared to have victory within their grasp with Akmal dropping three catches and missing a run out.

His performance came under scrutiny during a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) probe into the team's poor tour with former coaches Intikhab Alam and Aaqib Javed both expressing suspicions that Akmal may have links withbookmakers.

The pair's statements caused an uproar in Pakistan when video recordings of the inquiry committee proceedings were leaked to a television channel this week.

"I have always played for my country and I have already told the PCB about my performances in Australia. Whoever is now making allegations is free to do so but must also prove them," Akmal added.

The 28-year-old has played 48 Tests and 115 one-day internationals for his country, and was a key player in Pakistan's run to the semi-finals of the Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean earlier this month.

On his return from the attending the tournament in the West Indies, PCB chairman Ijaz Butt told reporters that the board had informed the ICC they had found no evidence of match-fixing by any player on the Australian tour.

"The inquiry into the Australian tour is complete and players have been penalised. The chapter is closed now for the PCB," Butt said.

South Africa & West Indies

McLaren fired in a low full toss very wide of off stump, as West Indies, chasing a modest victory target of 121, required three from the final delivery of the match.

But he conceded just one run, after South African point fielder Jean-Paul Duminy swooped on the ball, when West Indies tail-ender Jerome Taylor essayed a slog at it, and it trickled 15 yards away.

"It was a bit tense at the end, so we had to find somebody to remain calm, and Ryan kept a good sensible head, although we had a few guys running all over the place, but it was an exciting finish, and nice again to get over the line," South Africa captain Graeme Smith said.

"We have performed well enough in tense situations like this before, although our record in such situations in competition play is quite poor, but we have performed really well again under pressure in a game that we probably shouldn't have won, so it's to our credit, and the confidence is definitely growing."

South Africa also won the opening match on Wednesday by 13 runs at the same venue to take a psychological boost into the five One-day Internationals between the two sides, which open on Saturday at the VRCG.

Newcomer David Miller had battled to the top score of 33 from 26 balls, and Johan Botha made 23 from 22 balls to add some respectability to the Proteas' total of 120 for seven from their 20 overs.

They added 57 for the sixth wicket, after the West Indies' bowlers exploited an uneven Vivian Richards Cricket Ground pitch to floor the South Africans on 59 for five in the 13th over.

Taylor was the most successful West Indies bowler with flattering figures of three wickets for 14 runs from his allotment of four overs, and Darren Sammy captured two for 16 from his four overs.

South Africa put West Indies under early pressure, when Dale Steyn trapped West Indies captain Chris Gayle lbw for a two-ball duck in the first over, and Morne Morkel had fellow opener Andre Fletcher caught behind for four in the third over to leave the home team on nine for two.

But South Africa were put on the defensive, when Shivnarine Chanderpaul joined Dwayne Bravo, and they put West Indies back on track with a stand of 68 for the third wicket.

Substitute fielder Roelof van der Merwe dropped Bravo, on 10, at backward point off McLaren in the 10th over, and the West Indies all-rounder proceeded to gather the top score of 40 from 45 balls.

South Africa regained control, when they removed four wickets - including Chanderpaul and Bravo - for 12 runs between the 15th and 19th overs to leave West Indies 99 for six.

Carelessness by the Proteas saw West Indies inch closer to their target, and the home team required 15 from the last over.

McLaren, whose five wickets the previous day had wrecked West Indies' batting, conceded 10 to Sammy from the first three balls - a deuce to deep mid-wicket, a top-edged four to third-man from a thick edge, and an all-run four.

The Proteas fast-medium bowler however, restricted Sammy to a single to square leg with a well-pitched yorker from the next delivery, and then saw left-hander Narsingh Deonarine run out off the penultimate ball before choking Taylor.

Botha took three for 22 from four overs to make him a shoo-in for the Man-of-the-Match award, and Morkel captured two for 15 from four overs.

Gayle was bitterly disappointed, and almost close to speechless about how his side squandered another opportunity for the second straight day.

"There not much that I can say at this point in time," he said. "If we can't get 121 runs, it means our cricket is definitely in a state."

He added: "We still have the five One-day Internationals in which to try and turn things around before the three Tests, but I feel as if I am repeating myself here in this situation."
